Grading Honors Papers

What are honor papers:

Honor students need to complete an honor paper at the end of the semester. The instructions can be found here; and the mostly updated rubrics can be found here.

Who will grade the honor papers?

The physics TA of 109 need to grade the honor papers individually.

How to grade the honor papers?

The current honor paper rubrics can be found from the link above. The TA need to grade the paper according to the rubrics. Each question is graded on a 10 point basis. For each question, 9-10 is excellent, 8-9 is VERY good. 7-8 is good. 6-7 is marginal. 5-6 is failing. 4-5 is terrible. 4 and below means they basically didn’t do what they were supposed to do. When all the numbers add up we ought to have the right number for the paper. A 90 and above is an A, 80 < B < 80, 70 < C < 80 etc.
Also, we need need to check the originality of the paper in Turnitin.com. It’s not a bad idea to do the grading with the tools provided in Turnitin.com. We can create a rubric in Turnitin.com, and grade the paper on that. In this way the students get to see the results easily, and can revise their paper accordingly if necessary.
